Children
Security Fair Exhibition, 11.6. - 7.7.2022 Opening party: Saturday, 11 June 2022 Negotiating safety on the backs of children! Maximising the safety of "our" children seems like a barely questionable agenda that remains per se unachievable. Yet it shapes playgrounds and stairwells and spawns commercial segments, civil society initiatives and technological innovations. At the same time, children face a future that is anything but secure, not only in view of the looming climate catastrophe and a never-ending pandemic. (Many children have already realised this). The questions arise: The safety of which children (or rather: the children of which parents) is taken seriously, and which is not? What interests and morals frame our talk about child safety? What kind of scale is used here? And what should actually be done? The fair, designed for people of all ages, playfully explores the boundaries of the discourse space and shows paradoxes, disturbances and exaggerations, illustrates contradictions and hypocrisies. Artists: Mikhail Karikis, Stefanie Sargnagel, Darren Cullen, Barbi Markovi, Edith Payer, Das Planetenparty Prinzip, Total Refusal, Christoph Schwarz, Fiston Mwanza Mujila, Arne Glöckner/Sebastian Schröck, Katalin Kortmann Járay, and others Curated by: Robin Klengel, Miriam Schmid and Markus Waitschacher Design: Susi Possnitz Production: Gudrun Becker In cooperation with Steirische Gesellschaft für Kulturpolitik and Landesjugendreferat Steiermark |
