The Weight of the Concrete
Ezio Gribaudo in a scenography by Davide Stucchi

08/12/2023 - 02/03/2024, opening 07/12/2023, 18:00

The Weight of the Concrete marks the first monographic exhibition of Ezio Gribaudo (Turin, 1929-2022) in Austria. The exhibition serves as a comprehensive homage to his multifaceted career, offering an extensive exploration of his roles as an artist, editor, and publisher. The exhibition derives its name from Il Peso del Concreto (1968), a seminal book that complemented Gribaudo’s early graphic work with an anthology of concrete poetry by the poet Adriano Spatola. In line with his interdisciplinary approach, the exhibition explores Gribaudo’s idiosyncratic repertoire of forms, his poetics of matter, and his complex relationship with language and concrete poetry.

Gribaudo’s work is brought into the present through a scenography designed by the Italian artist Davide Stucchi, whose practice situates itself at the junction of conceptual and impromptu interventions, fashion, and set design. The exhibition will be accompanied by a reimagined publication of Il Peso del Concreto by incorporating historical and contemporary voices, as well as a public program that activates the exhibition through engaging conversations and performative interventions. In doing so, The Weight of the Concrete vividly underscores the interweaving of artistic expression, publishing, language, performativity, and design.
The exhibition is curated by Tom Engels and Lilou Vidal.

The project is supported by the Directorate General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture under the Italian Council program (12th edition, 2023), which aims to promote Italian contemporary art worldwide.
